Winter 2010

 Dear Friends,

In November, we decided to use the former daycare space as a ‘distribution center’. We are now able to receive larger donations and on Tuesday evenings, our sorting party begins. If you ever want to sign up and spend time helping us get ready to organize and sort our donations, please feel free to contact the office. We would love your company!

In December, the residents did a fantastic job of decorating the house and our tree. New babies were introduced to Santa at the Toys for Tots event, as well as former residents returning with their growing children. The food and stories were a delight. We enjoyed seeing Toni Trotzer, our former Executive Director. I know it was a real treat for many of the former residents to ‘catch’ up with her.

Also in December, Beverly Barney hosted a lovely party for the staff and board as well as many special guests at the Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland. This event was an opportunity for all of us to enjoy good food, conversation and mostly to honor Joan Quellette, our Parenting Educator. She made the decision to retire after 18 years with New Generation. Although she is retired, she has promised to ‘stay in touch’ and volunteer for upcoming events. She is missed.

So, with Joan retired, we are pleased to announce that Kierstyn Hunter has become our new Parenting Educator. This is great news as this valuable service makes so much difference to each and every resident and their children.

Plans are underway for our April 10th Auction at the Ashworth. Lisa Vincent, our Director of Fund Development and Fundraising is eager to have many volunteers help with this great event. Please give her a call. She is collaborating with our founder, Ruthie Ford, to ensure that this year’s auction is the best yet!

And finally, we begin the ‘storytelling’ dinner series on February 11th. Women from our community are invited to share dinner and their story with our residents to provide inspiration, encouragement, and perhaps offer a bit of hope. We will host these storytelling dinners every Thursday night. Give a call, get on the list….and until then, stay warm, celebrate life and either hit the slopes or if you are like me, daydream your way to spring….

            Warm wishes,

           Kelsi
